Current and Upcoming Stamp Issues

Once again we have selected a couple of stamp issues from around the world, which we believe have an interesting story to them. This time we have chosen an issue from Italy, and one from Hong Kong.

Poste Italiane: Vinitaly 2016:

This stamp was issued on Monday April 11th, and was issued in observance of the 50th anniversary of the organization Vinitaly. Vinitaly is an organization that is involved with all aspects of the wine business in Italy. They are made up of several entities, and span from educating future wine producers, to internationally recognized wine awards. The event that took place in Italy on April 8-11 was truly international, with visitors from more than 140 countries.

The stamp itself shows a golden 50 as a recognition of the 50th anniversary of the institution, and also shows wine being poured, with a strong resemblance of a heart-shape. You can see the stamp here, and it can be purchased directly from Poste Italiane.

Hong Kong Post: St. John Ambulance Brigade 2016:

The Hong Kong Post issued this set of 4 stamps on April 14th. The stamp was issued to honor the 100th anniversary of the Brigade, which was initiated in 1916. The four stamps show different aspects of the work that the St. John Ambulance Brigade performs, and each show one of the four main services of the brigade. Each stamp of the set has the number 100 printed at the top, to honor the anniversary of the brigade. To see more go to Hong Kong Post.

New York 2016 World Stamp Show

As the New York 2016 World Stamp Show is moving closer, more information about the show becomes available.

It is getting increasingly interesting to attend the show, as it was recently revealed that a host of rarities would be on show at the show. The British Guinea One Cent Magenta, also known as the world's most expensive stamp, will be featured at the show. The stamp is owned by fashion designer Stuart Weitzman, but is currently on display at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. The stamp will be on show at their booth.

The first stamp ever issued, the Penny Black, will also be displayed at the show. Two very special sheets showing both the Penny Black and the Two Penny Blue, will be displayed, courtesy of The Postal Museum of Great Britain and their National Archives. Neither sheets have ever been displayed outside of the United Kingdom, so this will be a first chance for many to see these extraordinary sheets.

Many more rarities will also be on display at the World Stamp Show, and more information can be gathered by visiting their official website.
