World's Largest Stamp Mosaic

On November 8th 2014 in Malaga, Spain, history was made. In an event hosted by Correos Spain, the world record for the world's largest stamp mosaic was broken. More than 230.000 individual, original postage stamps were used for the mosaic, which ended up being more than 220 square meters, upon completion.

The mosaic was made with Spanish stamps of different designs from 2011, which were already taken out of sale, and would otherwise have been destroyed by the authorities.

The objective of the project was to introduce the public to the world of stamps, and it must have had some effect more than 3100 individuals helped with the creation of the mosaic, which required more than 22 hours of work from the volunteers, who were primarily children.

The mosaic depicts a capital Ñ, which is a letter that is exclusively used in the Spanish language. This symbolizes Spain and its former colonial states.

Current and Upcoming Stamp Issues

Correos Spain: 75th anniversary of the fire of Santander

The city of Santander was hit by a great fire in 1941. The fire burned for several days, and ended up burning down more than 10% of the entire city. The fire started in the old city center, so a range of classical buildings were lost to the flames. A result of the fire was, that the architectural landscape in Santander changed significantly. The city switched from a medieval inspired style with small stone buildings, to an industrially inspired style with large housing blocks in the city center. The design of the stamp is clearly referencing the great fire. As you move from the left towards the right, the aftermath of the fire is shown, as well as the city as it looks today. The left edge of the stamp is charred and misshaped, as to symbolize the great fire.

The stamp was issued on February 15th 2016, with a denomination of 1,15. It can be found directly in our catalogue by clicking here.

Slovenska Posta: UCI World Road Cycling Champion 2015 Peter Sagan

On april 21st 2016, Slovenska Posta issued a new stamp issue, which celebrates Peter Sagan for his recent accomplishments. Peter Sagan is a 26-year-old professional cyclist from Slovakia. He currently rides for Team Tinkoff, where he has celebrated a range of great successes. One of the greatest successes in the past year has been for him to win the UCI World Championship, which makes him the best professional cyclist in the world. Peter Sagan has a special charisma to him, and the design of the stamp captures this very well. The stamp shows Sagan at the top of his career at the moment when he receives the gold medal in the UCI World Championship.

The stamp has a denomination of 1, and can be found in our catalogue here. It can also be purchased directly at Slovenska Posta.
